Ivan Medenica

Dramaturg, theatre critic (Serbia)

He was born in Belgrade. He graduated in dramaturgy in 1995 at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade, received his master’s degree from the same faculty in 2002, and his doctorate in 2006. For his scientific works, he is a researcher in Paris, the New Sorbonne, Paris Three. He works at the FDA in Belgrade at the Department of Theory and History, subject History of World Drama and Theater. He was a member and chairman of several organizing committees of international scientific symposia in the field of theater and literature, organized by Sterija’s Pozorje, the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, etc. In 2003, he was chosen to choose the Sterija’s Pozorje festival, and soon became the artistic director of prestigious theater events. He conceived and led an international forum within the manifestation European Theater Award (Thessaloniki, 2007) on the occasion of the recognition received by the playwright Biljana Srbljanović. Ivan Medenica is an active theater critic, first in the daily Politika, and then in the weekly Vreme. He is a member of the editorial board of the theater magazine Teatron. He is currently the Assistant Secretary General of the International Association of Theater Critics.
