Associate Professor Marija Selak Raspudić was born in Zagreb on 14 th of March 1982. She
studied Philosophy and Croatian Language and Literature at Faculty of Humanities and Social
Sciences in Zagreb. She became a Doctor of Philosophy June 11, 2013. Before starting her
academic career, she worked as a TV presenter, journalist and PR manager. Currently she
works as an Associate Professor at the Department of Philosophy, Faculty of Humanities and
Social Sciences, University of Zagreb. She published two scientific books, Human nature and
New Epoch and Contemporary Manifestations of Evil and Attempts at their Justification. In
2014, she won an Annual prize for the young scientists and artists of The Society of
University Teachers, Scholars and Other Scientists (University of Zagreb, Croatia) for her
book Human Nature and New Epoch. She was a visiting researcher at Ruhr-Universität
Bochum, Institut für Wissenschaft und Ethik (Bonn) and at Ian Ramsey Centre for Science
and Religion. From 2017 she is enrolled in a project Eastern European Perspectives on
Science, Theology and Humane Philosophy (John Templeton Foundation), Ian Ramsey Centre
(Oxford University). Besides her academic work, she is also very active in the public sphere.
For several years she was writing a monthly column for the Journal of the Croatian Medical
Chamber and took part in a weekly intellectual show “Fifth Day” at Croatian Public
Television HRT. She also often participates in public debates across Croatia which are
dealing with the future of education, role of humanities and current political situation. In 2018
for her public engagement she received Croatian Women of Influence and Future Leader
Award. In 2020, she was elected an independent member of the Croatian Parliament, where
she is currently a president of the Gender Equality Committee. She also now holds a Chair of
Ontology at Department of Philosophy, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences,
University of Zagreb.
