“The Good Soldier Švejk“
An unfinished satirical novel by Czech writer Jaroslav Hašek published in 1923. The writer planned for the work to consist of 6 parts, but he finished only four due to his death from a heart attack in 1923. All four parts were published in one book. The plot of the novel is about the Czech veteran Jozef Švejk and his experiences in the army. The story begins with an assassination in Sarajevo that precedes the First World War. Švejk is so excited about serving his country in the war that no one can determine with certainty whether he is an imbecile or a skilled saboteur of the Austro-Hungarian Army.
