Photography Workshop – Tomas van Houtryve
The workshop will explore how themes that are difficult to represent through traditional documentary photography techniques can be conveyed using methods drawn from conceptual art. The focus will be on invisible systems, topics, and trends that are part of contemporary events but are challenging to visualize. Special attention will be given to documenting endangered World Heritage sites.
Participants will combine theory and practice: they will work in the field, experiment with alternative photographic approaches, and explore ways to merge investigative depth with creative interpretations.
The workshop is organized by the VII Foundation in collaboration with the French Institute in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the French Embassy, with the support of UNESCO through the project “Culture and Creativity for the Western Balkans” (CC4WBs), funded by the European Union, as well as the joint UN and Swiss program “Disaster Risk Reduction for Sustainable Development in Bosnia and Herzegovina,” supported by the Government of Switzerland, the United Nations (UN), and the authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The goal of the project is to foster dialogue in the Western Balkans by strengthening the cultural and creative sector for greater socio-economic impact.
