When, at the age of 104, Dr. David Goodall said outright that he had no desire to live, he immediately became a media hero, and his words were interpreted around the world. The scientist wanted to undergo euthanasia because, he asserted, he no longer wanted to live.

“At my age, I get up in the morning, eat breakfast. And then I sit until lunch. Then I eat some lunch and sit again. What’s the use of that? (…) The process of dying can be unpleasant, but it doesn’t have to be. I wish it wasn’t for me.” – confessed Goodall to a CNN reporter.

Who should decide our lives? The law? Medical advances? The courts? The church? We ourselves? Are we responsible enough to make irreversible decisions?

“I’m Nowhere / Desvanecimiento” explores various aspects of the choices between life and death. The topic of euthanasia – legalized in several European countries is still silent in Poland. The ethical dilemmas surrounding a “good death” challenge our beliefs, confront social norms and force us to work through the moral ambiguities that each individual and society as a whole must decipher. This play is an attempt to get each of us off the “beaten path.” It’s an invitation to the audience to travel deep into their own consciousness, to wrestle with their own beliefs about life and death, and to gain a deeper understanding of the human experience. It’s not just about the act of euthanasia itself, but about the myriad feelings, beliefs and experiences that surround it. The show becomes a platform for viewers to reflect on the profound choices we make in life and the inherent dignity that lies in each individual journey, from beginning to end.
