The director is the invisible architect of the theatrical or cinematic act — the one who builds a living organism out of text, body, light, and sound that breathes only for the two hours the play lasts, and then disappears forever. Every performance is unique and unrepeatable.

Directing is not a dictatorship of vision, but the art of listening — to the actors, the space, the audience, the silence. Great directors, from Stanislavsky to Brook, knew that the most powerful moment on stage is the one that seems to happen by itself.
