Marija Šestić

Musician (Bosnia and Herzegovina)

Received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees as the youngest student in the history of the Banja Luka Academy of Fine Arts. Participated in international competitions of young pianists. In 2000, was a guest on the MTV Europe in Berlin and recorded her first album. The same year, she both sang and appeared in the spot for the song “Grab Your Happiness”, which was made by the OSCE for elections in BiH. In the following years, she won award for the best debutant at the festival of light and popular music in music festival in Banja Luka in 2003, award for interpretation and diploma of the organization FIDOF at the festival The Golden Star in Bucharest, 2004, and the second award on the International Music Festival in Banja Luka 2005. In 2007, she represented Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Eurovision competition with the song “River without a name”, and won the eleventh place in Helsinki. She works with many artists from the region and abroad, performers of pop, jazz and traditional music. She is one of 24 performers who participated in recording and performing the official hymn of the World Handball Championship for men named “Live it, Win it” in Doha, 2015.
